Things which we can learn from the movie "RATATOUILLE"

About The Movie

Ratatouille is an American computer-animated film produced by Pixar, which depicts a story of a rat name 'Remy' who has big dreams of becoming chief despite being a rat, so the movie shows how he changed the general perception of the world about the rats and how he showed that cooking is not for humans it's for anyone.
(That means anyone can do anything analogically)

Remy has a very extreme sense of taste and smell, and he was very open-minded and optimistic about his future and the world around him.

This movie according to me addresses the rat race of humans
(the story of a rat represents the story of a human caught in a rat race of society).

It shows how we are social animals and how we build colonies to feel safe or how we follow others for our survival.

we generally don't have a desire to create or to contribute something meaningful to this world, we just have a limited perspective about the life and some limited options when it comes to choosing a career and then we start thinking we can't be free from where we are because we are burdened with responsibilities and expectations.

We don't want change in our life, we don't like to live an uncertain life and that's why we generally avoid coming out of our comfort zone and even discourage the ones who wish for getting out of the rat race and this vicious circle goes on.

Only a few courageous rats succeed in coming out of the rat race, in the path of expressing them-self and to add something in this world.

Here are some major lessons which I've drawn from this movie :

1. To Have Courage

"Anyone can cook, but only the fearless can be great."
–  Chef Auguste Gusteau

Remy dreams of becoming a chef like his idol, the late Auguste Gusteau, he was interested in, Making and cooking delicious food because that's what he loves the most.

however, his brother Emile and his father Django, are interested only in subsistence

(to earn livelihood )

Remy sees the world differently from everyone, and most importantly he dared to follow his heart.

Most of us, have dreams about our life, we may want to go somewhere or to achieve something but very few of us successfully achieve the dreams which we set.

It's not because we are not lucky or we don't have the resources needed, I think the cause is that most of us never take the first step or we never gather the courage to take the first step which usually seems very hard at first and hence the fear of failure kills our dream before even it starts.

you can learn any skill, read many books but nothing is more important than taking action without the fear of failure which I think is only possible when You:

  •      Have Clarity about the Topic. (helps us to take decision)
  •      Know that you can do it (practice or exposure to that thing)
  •      Know why you want to do it ? (Your WHY is clear )
  •      Have Courage To Take Action. (you embrace change.)
  •      Have Right Guidance(A mentor / A Book / Or anything that gives you direction And Inspiration)

2. To Keep Clarity

"If you are what you eat, then I only want to eat the good stuff." – Remy

Remy never wanted to eat food just for subsistence, he wanted to experience the food he tastes,

he knew what he wanted at first which helped him to choose his life direction.

So, I think we should have clarity about the things which we wanted from our life, we should ask our-selfs about what we love to do if even you don't know or have anything you should explore things to figure out what's your nature and which thing suits your nature or what makes you feel satisfied.

We presume passion is only for the chosen ones, but I think it's cultivated.

3. Everything is Our Perspective.

"Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere."

Remy loves to cook but his brother and colony don't, they were happy eating the leftovers from the trash, Remy sees the world differently and more artistically.

The quality of life is determined by one's perspectives about life, you may have many problems with life but it doesn't solve anything you can keep blaming others and situations and then you die,
But it's completely your perspective about life and it can be changed and when it does change, it changes the complete point of view of seeing things.

so we should keep this thing in mind that the human mind is malleable, it can adapt the way we wanted.
It's only a matter of information we feed and process.

we should therefore never define our limits, we should always have the open-mindedness and the ability to adapt in new situations.

4. We Need Guidance Or A Mentor

ratatouille draws his knowledge and inspiration from the famous Chef Auguste Gusteau,

His book helped Remy to learn how he can cook and hence gave him a direction to move ahead.

sometimes we need direction to move, and only that person can guide us who had been at our place once and has reached where we want to reach.

so choosing the right mentor is very important, as a good one will not only teach you but he will also inspire you to face all the hardships during the process.
